Fledermaus was here! June 9, 10, and 11
Opera51 presented The Metropolitan Opera Version of Johann Strauss' Fledermaus in a fully staged and costumed performance with orchestra, sung in English, on the evenings of June 9 and 10 and the afternoon of June 11.
An elegant Viennese ball with champagne toasts, swirling waltzers, amorous liaisons pursued by disguised guests, and a scheme to inflict good-natured revenge on the philandering main character are just part of the fun in Opera51's fundraiser production of Fledermaus.
This perennially popular comic masterpiece by "Waltz King" Johann Strauss has delightful tunes you will hum on the way home, dazzling gowns for the ladies at the ball, and a drunk jailer whose slapstick antics will have you laughing in your seats. Sung in English using a libretto created in 1950 for the Metropolitan Opera by Broadway masters Garson Kanin and Howard Dietz, the operetta is fully staged and costumed with orchestra, performed by talented company members from MetroWest and greater Boston.
Will Falke -- "the bat" -- have his revenge on Eisenstein? Will Alfred win back his former love? Will the maid Adele succeed in climbing the social ladder wearing her mistress's gown? Will Rosalinda forgive her rascal of a spouse? Come and find out as the operetta's plot unfolds at 51 Walden.

A Fundraiser for 51 Walden
Opera51 performances are benefit fundraisers to support operation of the 51 Walden facility. Proceeds contribute valuable funds to the maintenance and operation of 51 Walden, a community resource supporting hundreds of local residents each week throughout the year.
Significant funds are raised each year through opera performances and associated corporate sponsorships, program ads, and individual donations, and through special events including a late winter Gala and a Columbus Day rummage sale.
Donations to support 51 Walden can be made directly here, or by sending a check payable to "51 Walden" to P O Box 251, Concord, MA 01742. 51 Walden is a 501(c)3 organization.
